My Favorite Bible Verses That Ground Me During Mental Storms

Matthew 19:26- "But Jesus looked at them and said to them, ‘With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’”

When anxiety or panic hits, it can be tough to stay grounded. I’ve been there too, when my thoughts start to spiral, it feels almost impossible to focus on the here and now. That’s why I put together this list of verses. These scriptures have carried me through some of the hardest moments, and my hope is that they’ll bring calm and clarity to your mind whenever things start to feel overwhelming.

Psalm 94:19: "When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, your consolations

delight my soul.”‭ NASB1995‬‬

I had been dealing with anxiety and fear of panic for a couple of years when I first saw this verse. It has helped me tremendously, when I've been faced with racing worry thoughts. I now find myself reading this verse and praying to God when I am faced with an evening of constant worry.

Psalm 34:19: “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions

of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.” ESV

This verse is one that I've recently discovered for myself, and I've found that this is encouragement for the

coming days when things in life may not go well for me. "...but the Lord delivers him out of them all"--A great reminder that all things-good or bad- eventually come to pass.

Psalm 34:4: I sought the Lord, and he heard me; he delivered me from all my fears.” NKJV

When you're stuck in a mental tornado of racing thoughts and panic, reach for this verse as you pray. The Lord is near

even when it doesn't feel like it. He's there, and He cares about you. He doesn't want us to be filled with fear,

but He also knows that we are human; sometimes we're overwhelmed with stress, sometimes our bodies are out of sync

and our nervous system can become dysregulated. He understands, and this feeling you're going through will not

last forever.

Philippians 4:4: “Rejoice in the Lord always. Again, I will say, rejoice!” NKJV

Gratitude for what we have, and for what the Lord has done is one remedy for curing worry and anxiousness.

Meditation on God's inherent goodness will, overtime, help us to renew our minds.

Philipians 4:6-7: “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 “and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. NKJV

When I was in the thick of panic disorder after the birth of my second child this verse became my go-to every time. Prayer is important in our Christian Walk, as God wants a relationship with us. It has taken a few years for me to trust in the Lord over the things that I've felt highly anxious about. I mean, I'm still a work in progress on that front-as I bet most of us are- but my trust in God has deepened over the years. I now go to Him first when I find myself worrying about something.

Romans 8:28- "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose."

As an anxious-prone person, this verse has helped me learn that all things that happen in life ultimately work out for His good, but that good also has an effect on us as well. This verse is encouraging to anyone who is caught in any mental storm.

John 14:27: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives.

Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

I first read and fell in love with this verse in 2020 during the COVID lockdowns. It brought me and my family peace

when we felt so uncertain about our situation. The takeaway here is that only God can give you true peace. Seeking

peace and comfort from the world will only lead to heartache. The easiest way to lean on Christ is through prayer and

reading the Bible.

2 Timothy 1:7: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”  NKJV

If you're feeling a panic attack, this verse may-or may not-help you to proclaim strength in Jesus' name. When I first heard this verse, I actually felt more fearful and guilt for feeling that fear. I now believe it's because I felt that because I was feeling fear, then I must be doing something wrong.

I now believe that God DOES allow us to feel horrible feelings. He does not rob us of our human experiences, and therefore, was teaching me how to accept my feelings in my body as they were, and to trust that in time, he WILL give me a sound mind.

I just needed to be patient.

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭41‬:‭10‬: “Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.

I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” -NASB1995

This is just a small list of verses that have helped me through the years. The Bible is full of powerful scriptures and entire chapters that can strengthen and encourage every believer as time goes on. I pray these verses speak to your heart and remind you that you're never alone in your journey.

Keep seeking, keep trusting. God is always faithful to meet you right where you are.
